George Keady passed from this life on September 4th into glory, surrounded by family.
When he was born to Albert Cory Keady & Jessie Boyd Keady in Klamath Falls, Oregon on January 17, 1934, he joined older sisters, Lucille and Sylvia and Grandma Emma Keady - younger brother Ed later joined the Keady home.
He attended Henley schools for 10 years. When his father became ill and died, he transferred to Klamath Union High School where he graduated in 1952. He then went to work for a local ranch. In 1953 He enlisted in the Army and served two years in the American sector of Berlin in the Signal Corp. Upon returning home, he attended O.I.T. for one year studying Diesel Mechanics.
On March 17, 1956 he married Sheryl Metler. That fall they, with Sheryl's sister, Beverly Yancey and brother-in-law Wayne, moved to the east side of Langell Valley. He, Wayne and Sheryl's father built their small pink house on the property where they raised their two children, Virginia and Steven.
He served on the Langell Valley Irrigation District Board of Directors and was a member of the Klamath Wool Pool and Lamb Pool. He was a lamb grader and shipper for PNW, a telephone-auction where lamb buyers bid on the loads of fat lambs. He was involved in other farm and community events in the area.
Due to his health, the ranch was sold in 1978 and they moved back to Klamath Falls. For four years he sold Federal Crop Insurance and then became a Real estate salesman, dealing in farms and ranches. He then became an appraiser for the county's assessor office and was Chief Appraiser at the time of his retirement.
The next ten years he delivered Meals On Wheels. He enjoyed RVing with friends and spent many hours in his shop creating beautiful natural wood (Intarsia) art for family and friends.
He was a kind and humble person, who always looked for the good in others, living his life by Christian principles. He always attended church wherever he lived and was a long-time member of Peace Memorial Church.
He is survived by his brother Ed, wife of 68 years-- Sheryl, his children: Virginia (Harlan) Weise, Steven (Marla) Keady; grandchildren Jenny (Ben) Mitchell, Justin Weise and Colin Keady; three step great-grandchildren, all of Arkansas, nieces and nephews and three Boyd cousins.
A celebration of life will be at Peace Memorial Church on Sunday the 15th at 3:00 pm, where a reception will follow the service. The family invites you to attend.
A private committal will be at a later date - Davenports Chapel in charge of arrangements.
The family thanks Klamath Hospice and their staff for the past year of care and comfort while he battled cancer - especially Scott, Denise, Lucy and Cody, and independent caregiver, Yvonne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Klamath Hospice or a charity of your choice in his memory.
