Arlene was born January 22, 1933 at Klamath Valley Hospital in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Otis and Argil (Pruitt) Stanbery. She lived with her parents and older sister, Mary Lou, on Kiln Street in Klamath Falls throughout her childhood. She attended Conger and Roosevelt Elementary Schools, Fremont Junior High School, and graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1950. Arlene met Roy Lundgren the summer of 1947 and they dated the remainder of their high school years. Arlene and Roy married on December 23, 1951.
After her children—Steve, Teresa, and Sherri—were born, she participated in PTA at Mills School and was active in all of the kids’ extracurricular activities, as well as at the church. Family outings while her kids were teenagers included the first two weeks of August spent at Lake of the Woods camping and learning to water ski. Eventually Arlene and Roy traded in the ski boat for a canoe and would spend time out on the water with other family and friends, which Arlene enjoyed very much. Once the children were out of the house, Arlene and Roy took many trips to visit their children in their new homes, and also went on family hunting trips with Roy’s brothers and sisters. In her free time, Arlene enjoyed various hobbies over the years, including sewing, crocheting, oil painting, baking and gardening.
Arlene was a member of First Christian Church from the time she was a baby until it dissolved in 2005, at which time she became a member of Shasta Way Christian Church, where she attended until she passed. While at First Christian Church Arlene taught Sunday school classes, took people to church who did not have transportation, served on the property committee for the new church building—which included landscaping, planting and gardening—and also served as the forwarding agent for Dorothy Uhlig (an American missionary in Thailand) for 35 years until Dorothy’s passing in 2013. She kept in regular contact with Dorothy and managed the distribution of her newsletters, as well as attended missions events and helped with publicity and fundraising.
Arlene’s world changed dramatically when Roy was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2000. After this, she devoted her time to caring for others, including her mother, sister, and numerous other friends until they passed away. She also enjoyed going on vacations and spending time with her children and their families. She always selflessly gave of her time and energy to help others in any way she could, and her family and friends have been immensely blessed by her love and kindness.
Arlene devoted her entire life to following her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through all of the struggles and hardships that life brought her, Arlene’s faith and love in Jesus never wavered. When Arlene received her own cancer diagnosis in February of this year, her only worry was for the sadness she knew her passing would bring to her friends and family. After living an incredibly blessed life for 93 years, she knew her diagnosis was Jesus’ way of calling her home to be with Him, where there would be no more sadness, sorrow, or pain.
Arlene is survived by her three children and their spouses - Steve and Susan Lundgren, Teresa and John Ketchum, and Sherri and Bob Eitel; her 8 grandchildren - Wesley (Holly) Petznick, Lasheena (Esteban) Nieves, Ashley (Mike) Strum, Kelsey Petznick, Derek (Eden) Lundgren, Jacob (Katelyn) Lilley, Joshua (Adrianne) Lilley, and Kira Lundgren; 13 great-grandchildren - Christian and Arynia Petznick; Zakaiah and Luca Nieves; Nora, Jackson and Aelin Strum; Kiland and Tala Lundgren; Harper Lilley; Ashton, Justin and Austin Lilley; and numerous other family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lundgren, her parents, Otis and Argil Stanbery, and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Patrick McSweeney.
