"Donald Guy Byerly, a cherished resident of Klamath Falls, OR, passed away on December 29, 2023. Born to Guy F. Byerly and Mary E. Byerly (Mathern) in Forsyth, Montana, on September 22nd, 1938. Donald led a remarkable life filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections.
A proud veteran, Donald served for 9 and a half years in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1965, working in the aviation supply and accounting division. After completing his service, Donald transitioned to civilian life, often dividing his time between Utah and Nevada. In 1965, he ventured into the gaming industry after attending the first Keno school in Reno, marking the beginning of a dedicated career. He was involved in Keno until his retirement, showcasing his commitment and expertise. His passion for sports was evident as he excelled in basketball and volleyball. He found solace in the outdoors, cherishing moments spent camping and embracing nature's beauty.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Donald devoted his time to volunteering as a coach and manager for youth baseball teams. His dedication to mentoring and guiding young athletes was a testament to his generous spirit and love of sports.
In love and life, Donald found companionship in several remarkable partners. He was most recently married to Sharon G. Byerly (Wood) and was previously married to Ruth Winzenried and Beverly Fleming. Donald spent many years as a dedicated caregiver to his beloved spouse, Sharon G. Byerly (Wood), who preceded him in death.
His legacy lives on through his children: Steven G. Byerly, Karie Martinez, Kristine Byerly, Marie Jones, Shawn Byerly, Julianna Pestana, Kétienne York, and Matthew A. Byerly. Donald was preceded in death by his oldest son, Donald R. Byerly.
Donald was preceded in death by his younger brother, Lawrence D. Byerly, sister Sandra M. Schrader, and brother James T. Helgeson.
Donald is survived by numerous grandchildren: Analei Pestana, Angel Byerly, Ashley Byerly, Brandon McCleery, Christian Byerly, Donna Lane, Doug Jarret, Dustin Byerly, Ian Byerly, Jake Anderson, Jeorgia Byerly, Johnny Martinez, Josh Byerly, Justin Boyce, Justin Pestana, Linda Menefee, Monica Decender, Nick Byerly, Portia Jones, Samantha Byerly, and Skylar Jones. He held dear Sandra Myers and Victoria Myers, his beloved departed grandchildren.
In addition, Donald is survived by a legacy of 46 great-grandchildren.
Remembered for more than his accomplishments, Donald was a selfless and calm presence in the lives of those around him. His wit and wisdom brought light to many moments.
Donald's vibrant spirit, dedication to family, and his intangible qualities will be fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A memorial service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd on January 8th at 11:00 AM."
