Doyle Miller Obituary

Doyle R. Miller, 88, passed away on July 2, 2024 at his home in Klamath Falls, Oregon with his loving wife at his side.  He had been dealing with a number of health issues for several years.

Doyle was born in DeQueen, Arkansas to John Henry and Dora Miller, and was the oldest of their three sons.  At the age of six he moved with his family to the Lakeview-Bly, Oregon area where his father worked for Weyerhaeuser Timber Company.  Doyle grew up in Bly, Oregon and graduated as salutatorian from Bly High School in 1954.  Following graduation he went to work for Weyerhaeuser on the Woods Crew driving log truck.

In January, 1957, Doyle enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served stateside for four years and was honorably discharged in 1961.  During his time in the USAF he made several life-long friends whom he enjoyed staying in touch with.  After his discharge in 1961 he spent some time attending community college in California with a high school friend.  He then returned to work at Weyerhaeuser driving log truck and operating a road grader with a 42 year career there.  He and his co-workers had many a tale to tell about their work at Weyerhaeuser, including getting out of Camp 9 and home in the big flood of 1964 from a Chinook wind.

Doyle married the love of his life, Gayle M. Long, on January 25, 1964 in Medford, Oregon where Gayle was working as a Public Health Nurse at the Jackson County Health Dept.  They had met a year earlier in Iowa when he was the best man for one of his USAF buddies, and Gayle was the maid-of-honor for her sister.  They were married for almost 60 1/2 happy years and felt very fortunate to have had that time together.

Doyle and Gayle lived in Medford and Ashland until moving to Klamath Falls 2 1/2 years later to be a little closer to his work.  They moved into the house Mr. Perry built for them in Klamath Falls in 1967, and he was able to live there until his death.

Doyle loved working in his yard and did that until his health no longer permitted it.  He was very mechanically minded and fixed almost everything around the house and on the vehicles.  Gayle would often bring broken things home from her work and ask if he could please "fix it".  On one such occasion, Doyle sighed and said, "Sweetie, I swear you could tear up a steel ball," to which Gayle replied, "well, in my own defense, I'm not the only one who uses this equipment".

Doyle and Gayle made many trips across the country to the Midwest and up and down the West Coast to visit with friends and relatives, especially when Gayle's parents were having their health issues.  Along the way they visited as many National Parks as they could.

Doyle is survived by his cherished wife, Gayle; sister-in-laws Marlys (Bill) Walters of Bella Vista, AR, Ardyth (Buddy) Vignes of Cypress, TX Jennifer Miller of Greenville, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doyle was preceeded in death by his parents, Henry and Dora Miller; his two brothers, Carson and Norman Miller; father-in-law, Dale Long; mother-in-law, Mamie Long Baxter; brother-in-law. Dr. Roy J. Hassebroek; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.

Many thanks go out to the doctors and staff at the Klamath Eye Center, the Bend Dermatology Clinic, and Klamath Open Door Clinic for their continued care and concern over the past several years.  Also, the kindness and care of the doctors and staff at Sky Lakes Medical Center and Klamath Hospice in the last few days of Doyle's life was deeply appreciated by his family.

At Doyle's request there will be no funeral service.  Anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Doyle's name may do so to Klamath Hospice, 2751 Washburn Way, Klamath Falls, Oregon 97603 or to a charity of your choice.
