Helen Ray Obituary

Helen "Honi" Louise Ray went home to be with The Lord on September 22, 2024 in Klamath Falls, OR. She was born May 1, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to Herbert James and Helen Ray. After graduating from Lowell High School in San Francisco, CA. in 1949, Honi enlisted in the Navy. She attended the Personnelmen Naval Training School in Great Lakes, IL. and was the only woman in her class to graduate from the PNSA school as a Wave honor. While in the Navy, she worked as a Management Analyst and retired after eight years of service. Concluding  her Navy service, she continued her career in the U.S. Government Civil Service Division for 27 years. She was on the staff of the Commandant, Ninth Naval District and The Commander, Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL., and Director of Recruitment and Staffing Division at the Naval Supply Center in Oakland, CA.

After retiring in 1987, Honi moved to Chiloquin, OR  where her sisters were already residing. Honi became deeply involved in her new community. She had a servant's heart and was ready to help wherever she saw a need. Honi was a board member on the Gienger Scholarship committee, a volunteer for the SMART and Aspire programs, and a long time member of Chiloquin Christian Church where she sang in the choir, and volunteered at the Blessing Pot, and a EMT for the Chiloquin Ambulance Service . While Honi enjoyed all of her volunteer activities, one of her favorites was the Chiloquin Ambulance Service. For a period of time, Honi was the president of the Ambulance service and was deeply involved in improving  the service. Honi served as a volunteer EMT for 16 years. With years of serving in many different capacities, it is no wonder that she won the Klamath County Volunteer of the Year Award in 2006.

Honi is survived by her siblings Peter Ray, Ann Ray, and Jane McLaughlin. Her nieces and nephews: Linda Altmyer, Mary Ann Ray-Irons, Becca Metz, David Ray, Ruth Vakilli, Mark Valceshini, Scot Valceshini, Clark Valceshini, and Matt Valceshini. She was preceded in death by her parents and long time friend Carol Franzen. A Memorial Service will be held on October 12, 2024 at 2 pm at Chiloquin Christian Church in Chiloquin, OR. Honi was a very kind and generous person. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

In remembrance of Honi, donations can be made to Chiloquin Ambulance Service or Chiloquin Blessing Pot.
