John Francis O'Neil, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the age of 89 in Klamath Falls, Oregon, with family by his side. Born on May 18, 1936, in Merrill, Oregon, John's life was marked by his unwavering kindness, love, and thoughtfulness, which touched the hearts of everyone he knew.
John's journey began as a spirited young man in Merrill, where he quickly distinguished himself as a natural athlete. He excelled in sports throughout his high school years, demonstrating not only his physical prowess but also his dedication and team spirit. After graduation, John's adventurous spirit led him to embrace the great outdoors, where he found joy in waterskiing, hunting, fishing, and camping. These activities became a cornerstone of family life, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
John's love for his family was the guiding force in his life. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 61 years, Maxine O'Neil, and a loving father to his children, Tommy O'Neil (Tracey), Claudette Adams (Kenny), twins Tina O'Neil and Toni Blankenship (Mike), Ronnette O'Neil, Johnna O'Neil, and Danielle O'Neil. His legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored and who will carry forward his values and zest for life.
Beyond his family, John had a passion for the thrill of the race. He loved his racehorses and the excitement of chariot races, a hobby that showcased his competitive spirit and love for animals. His enthusiasm for these pursuits was infectious, and he often shared these moments with friends and family, creating a community of fellow enthusiasts who admired his dedication and sportsmanship.
As we bid farewell to John Francis O'Neil, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the beauty of nature at a graveside service at Malin Cemetery in Malin, Oregon on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm. He has left an indelible mark on the world, and while he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. John's journey on earth may have come to a close, but his story will be told with fondness and admiration for years to come.
