Jose Marquez-Loya Obituary

Jose “Che” Marquez-Loya was born in Santa Rosa, Chihuahua, Mexico on July 18, 1951 to Paz Marquez and Maria Loya. He died at Sky Lakes Medical Center on June 2, 2024 with his wife Maria and his daughter Christina by his side. At an early age, he began his journey to the United States. He worked many years for Mary West Ranch in TX. He then lived in Winkelman, AZ and worked for Joe Kerlock on a cattle ranch. Together, they subcontracted with Asarco Copper Mine. He also worked with Mark Rodriquez, assisting him with roping events. When he first arrived in Klamath Falls, he worked for Dan McFarland and Blackman Farms. He then worked for both Planasa in Klamath Falls and Lassen Canyon Nursery in Macdoel, CA for 20 years.

He met his wife, Maria, in Mammoth, AZ in February of 1992. They remained together for 32 years, until his death. They traveled to Klamath Falls, OR in December 1999 for his father-in-law’s funeral service and then decided to make Klamath Falls their home. He was a loving dad to his daughter, Christina Martinez. He was present at both births of Christina’s daughters, Alexa and Alayna. These 3 girls were his pride and joy. He could be found at the girls’ sporting and school events, Mexican dances, round dances, and he especially loved powwows. He loved dancing to the Intertribal songs with his girls. He was so proud of their accomplishments and seeing them reach their goals.

He enjoyed going to Kla-Mo-Ya Casino. One of his most special memories was seeing his favorite Mexican group “Los Tigres Del Norte” in person in 2021. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his loving personality. He was like a brother, father, uncle, and grandfather figure to many people in the farmworker community. He gained love and respect from all who knew him. He was a dedicated family man and a hard worker.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paz Marquez and Maria Loya; Sisters Lilia Cera, Teresa Cera and Agustina Marquez; and his loving in-laws Donald F. and Willa Dean Morris. Survivors include his wife Maria Marquez; daughter Christina Martinez  (Jorge Guerra); granddaughters Alexa Martinez and Alayna Guerra all of Klamath Falls, OR; His son Jose Luis “Pepe” (Cynthia) Marquez of Pueblo, CO; and Pepe’s children and grandchildren whom he never got the chance to meet all of Pueblo, CO; Brother Juan Manuel (Eva) Marquez of Denver, CO; sister Francisca Marquez of Chihuahua, Mexico; sister Maria del Refugio Marquez of Queretaro, Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews.
