Merlyn Levi Giller

Merlyn Levi Giller, known to many simply as Merlyn, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, at the age of 90.

He was born on June 1, 1935, in Eureka, Wisconsin, to Martin Giller and Bertha Marie Giller (Larsen). He lived a life marked by devotion, service, curiosity, and quiet strength. Merlyn was a kind, intelligent, and adventurous man whose presence left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He carried himself with dignity and warmth, and he was admired for the steady way he met life’s many seasons.

Merlyn graduated from high school and went on to serve his country with honor and distinction. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 and in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1974. His years of military service reflected his deep sense of duty, discipline, and loyalty. Those who served alongside him remember a man who could be counted on, a man who met responsibility without complaint and who gave of himself in the service of others.

Outside of his military career, Merlyn was a man of broad interests and a lifelong appreciation for the world around him. He enjoyed travel and reading, pursuits that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his thoughtful nature. Whether he was learning about new places, exploring new ideas, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a good book, he approached life with curiosity and appreciation. He found meaning in experience and value in knowledge, and he carried that love of discovery throughout his life.

Merlyn was a Christian, and his faith was an important part of his life. It guided his values and shaped the way he treated others. He believed in kindness, perseverance, and living with purpose. His faith, combined with his character, gave him a calm and steady presence that brought comfort to those around him.

He is survived by his eldest son, John Giller; his youngest son, Roland Giller; his eldest grandson, Dustin Giller; his youngest grandson, Brandon Giller; and his granddaughter, Alyssa Dawson. He also had several nieces and nephews. His family was a source of great pride and joy to him, and he treasured the relationships he built with them over the years. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and example that will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren.

Merlyn’s life was one of dedication and resilience. He saw the world through the eyes of a man who had known both challenge and wonder, and he met each with courage. He was respected for his intelligence, remembered for his kindness, and loved for his adventurous spirit.
