Richard "Dick" Pelton Obituary

Brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, machinist mate, forester, wildland firefighter, retiree, number one go-to guy, and friend.
Richard “Dick” Pelton was born on September 26th, 1946 in Fallon, Nevada to Phillip and Helen Pelton. He was the youngest brother to Jim, Gayle, and Garth. He passed on July 13, 2023 at his home in Chiloquin surrounded by his loved ones.
Dick enlisted in the Navy after graduating from Henley High School in 1964 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War until 1968. He re-enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1990, just as Desert Storm was starting.
He married his wife, Grace, in 1970 and also gained a son, David. In the following 3 years, they welcomed Wendy and Clay into the family.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Dick began working at the Chiloquin Ranger District and was employed there for 34 years until he retired at the age of 56. He went on to be the owner and operator of Eagle Country Forestry, which allowed him to use his heavy equipment to assist in fighting wildland fires. During the off season, he would build and fabricate custom items for many people. When the snow would fall, he was always out plowing the subdivision so he and Grace, as well as all of their neighbors could get out to the paved road.
Dick and his family took many vacations to the Oregon Coast and when the kids were grown, they started taking family trips
to Hawaii, getting to visit Maui, Kauai, the Big Island, and Oahu. From the time the kids were small, he always said “if I can’t take my kids with me on vacation, I won’t go”. His family was his pride and joy.
Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Grace, daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Gerry Buckingham, son and daughter-in-law Clay and Clara Pelton, grandchildren Kalise, Brooke, Aspen, Summer, and Carter, and great-grandchildren Ahliyah and Alexzander. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, grandson Clinton and son David.
Dick loved the outdoors, some of his favorite things to do were, fishing, shooting, walking the wood river wetlands taking in the sights and sounds. He enjoyed seeing wildlife, had an obsession with the weather and loved his country.
