Wilbur Hubbard Obituary

In loving memory of Wilbur Franklin “Frank” Hubbard, Sr.

Wilbur Franklin “Frank” Hubbard, Sr., 77, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle,
grandfather, & friend, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2023 in Klamath Falls, OR.
Born to L.V. “Pete” Hubbard and Dorothy Mae (Swain) Hubbard on January 1, 1946 in Little Rock, AR. He
was named Wilbur Franklin after both his maternal and paternal grandfathers, a reflection of the
importance of family in his life.
In the summer of 1952, the family moved from Arkansas to California, traveling in the back of his
Grandpa Swain’s homemade camper with his brother, Les, camping alongside the road the entire trip.
They lived in Los Angeles for a short time before moving over to the Sun Valley area.
During his early years, most of the family lived close by and would get together frequently for picnics at
Griffith Park, Elysian Park and the beach. Frank was involved in Boy Scouts with his brother, Les, and his
dad served as their Scout Leader.
Frank loved his Grandpa Swain and Uncle Roy, who quickly became key role models. He loved to tinker in
his Grandpa’s workshop. Perhaps that’s what created his love for creating unique pieces of art with wood
and metal. He and his Uncle Roy would spend lots of time fishing, a hobby that carried forward through
the rest of his life.
During his youth he worked briefly at the Flying A gas station on Vineland, and then transitioned to
HydroAire in Burbank where he worked as a machinist, making aircraft landing gear.
While attending Polytechnic High School, Frank became a member of a car club called the “Protestors”,
where he made lifelong friendships that endured through the decades, often getting together to
reminisce at Protestor reunions.
In the 1960’s, Frank moved to Akron, OH where he was employed by Goodyear Tire Factory and the
Golden Age Pop Company delivering soda. It was there that he married the mother of his children, Mary
Dowdy, and where Dori and Frank Jr were born. Not long after, they returned to Southern Calif to be with
their families, and had another son, Michael, and ultimately made Simi Valley their home in 1969.

In the 1970’s, Frank continued his career as a machinist at Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, CA, where he was
exceptional at his job. His warm and fun-loving spirit left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of
working with him.
In the early 1980’s, Frank and then wife, Jerri (Bowers) Hubbard, made the move to Oregon where he
continued to work as a machinist. It would be many years later, during his employment at ECS in
Klamath Falls, that he would meet his wife, Shirley Lady, whom he married in 2011.
After retiring, Frank found joy in simple pleasures, especially his passions for riding his Harley, fishing,
camping, working around the house, helping in the garden, and supporting the Dallas Cowboys! He loved
spending time with his family, friends and his newly adopted dog, Hank.
Frank is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Dori (Barry) Mittner of Simi Valley, CA; sons, W Frank
(Dawn) Hubbard Jr. of Hudson, WI and Michael (Lois) Hubbard of Fort Bragg, CA; brother, Les (Glennice)
Hubbard of Bullhead City, AZ; sister, Sherry (Alan) Scott of Woodinville, WA; uncle, Forrest “Corky”
Lindauer; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his adored mother, Dorothy
Bandick, his “dad of the heart”, William Bandick and his nephew, Lester Hubbard, II.
Frank is also survived by his stepsons, Jim (Pamela) Lyons of Salem, OR and Allen Lady (Iline White) of
Klamath Falls, OR and Rollie (Misty) Lady of Salem, OR; twenty-one grandchildren, twelve great
grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.
We will all cherish the memories and the countless moments shared together. His spirit will live on
forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
In honor of Frank’s life, a memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Refuge City
Church, Anthem House, 1791 Washburn Way, Klamath Falls. For those unable to attend in person, we
will be providing a livestream via zoom.
